Candle Care Tips: How To Make Your Candle Last Longer
A beautifully burning candle is part science, part ritual. With the right care, your candles can burn cleaner, last longer, and stay as beautiful as the day you made them. Here’s how to get the most out of every reativ candle:
1. Trim the Wick First
Before each burn, trim your cotton wick to around 5mm using a wick trimmer or scissors. A shorter wick prevents smoking, uneven burning, and excess soot. It also slows the burn, giving you more hours of fragrance and glow.
2. Commit to the First Burn
The first burn sets the stage for every one that follows. Let your candle melt to the edges of the vessel before extinguishing — usually 4 hours for a candle made in a reativ vessel. This prevents tunnelling and creates a smooth, even surface for all future burns.
3. Burn in Calm Intervals
Candles thrive in balance. Never burn for more than four hours at a time, and always keep your candle within sight. Extinguish gently, allow the wax to cool, and relight when you’re ready to return to your ritual. This protects the wick from “mushrooming” and helps prevent overheating.
4. Store Thoughtfully
When your candle isn’t in use, keep it away from direct sunlight and heat. Placing a lid or cover on your candle will protect the wax from dust and preserve the fragrance between burns, keeping it as fresh as the day you poured it.
With just a little care, your candles will reward you with cleaner burns, longer life, and a ritual that feels as luxurious on the tenth burn as it does on the first. Ready to refill? Explore our collection here and discover how easy it is to create, reuse, and refill your own candles today.
